App review – Architactile Inception

Architactile InceptionI recently had the pleasure of testing Architactile Inception for iPad, an application developed for the professional architect. The application is designed for the purpose of gathering and sorting information in the pre-project phase; including budget overviews, client guidelines, team member information and visualisations on project progression, all wrapped up in a neat package which can be exported swiftly and elegantly for client review. As a landscape architecture student outside the US, I am not exactly within the bounds of the target user group of this application. As such, I write this review based on my impressions of the application features, look and feel to the best of my ability.

The Wacom Bamboo stylus – Drawing clouds was never this easy

What, are you saying drawing clouds is a waste of time?

Wacom Bamboo StylusI recently purchased a Wacom Bamboo stylus for my iPad, of various reasons. I hoped to get a tool for sketching and drawing faster and more precisely: I’ve more and more come to enjoy the hassle-free routine of not having to stock up on notebooks and pens of various shapes and sizes and carry them wherever I go. My iPad is always with me, and as any person in a design related profession or study will agree – not having something nearby to jolt down that visual idea that always comes at the strangest time is not only frustrating – it can be directly painful.

Useful iPad apps for architects and designers

Since my purchase of Apple’s iPad I have continuously been searching for useful applications for my use as a landscape architecture student. The list grows by the day. In this post I will list applications I have come to use regularly in my studies, as well as recommendations on useful tools for the architect and designer on the go. Many of the applications featured in this list have previously been selected as App of the Week in the Apple application store. Clicking on the links will take you to the application’s information page connected to iTunes.
I will update this post with more handy apps as time goes by – If you have recommendations, please don’t hesitate to leave me a reply!

Recommended app: MindNode

My hunt for useful study related iPad apps continues. I just came across a nice tool I’d like to recommend:

MindNode is an application developed for Mac OS X, iPad and iPhone, and is an easy and intuitive program for drawing mindmaps from brainstorming sessions. It’s a clean and clutter-free interface that quickly organizes ideas for review and sharing. I’ve been using this to organize my current group project, and I’m confident I’ll use it consistently in the future.
